In the tundra to the south of Uelen and in the basin of the Chegitun river, the summer was warm; July was hot and dry, and August was wet.

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

Arctic Foxes and Snowy Owls were absent. Rough-legged Buzzard bred in low numbers on the Chegitun, feeding on birds, Northern Pika, and Arctic Ground Squirrels. Breeding success of waders was considered to be moderate.
 

Rodent dynamics:

Abundance of rodents was extremely low.
